Sandstorm fixed for Elemental pets, finally!

Rejoice, for Blizzard has finally fixed the ongoing problem of Elemental pets not benefiting from the positive portion of the Sandstorm weather effect, due to their Elemental family passive. Originally, the passive included all weather effects, not just negative ones, but all effects. It was changed a while ago but the pets were still not receiving the beneficial damage reduction portion of the ability due to a bug. Now that this is finally fixed, about that Anubisath Idol‘s miss rate…

The Celestial Tournament – Shademaster Kiryn Strategy

**Please note in the above video I incorrectly called Arcane Blast “Amplify Magic“. I made a note in the video and corrected it in my play by play!**

Shadmaster Kiryn appears in the Celestial Tournament as one of the random Champions of Pandaria. This is the strategy I use to defeat her.

*This strategy was originally seen in this guide. I have never made any claims that I created this strategy.*

Pet and Ability Lineup:

Your Squad:

Lofty Libram with Arcane Blast, Amplify Magic, and Curse of Doom. (Magic).

Terrible Turnip with Tidal Wave, Leech Seed, and Sunlight. (Elemental).

Darkmoon Tonk with Missle. Shock and Awe, and Ion Cannon.  (Mechanical)

Enemy Team:

NairnNairn!, Call of Winter, and Giant’s Blood. (Humanoid)

StormoenBatter, Call Lightning, and Build Turret. (Mechanical)

SummerBite, Dodge, and Prowl. (Beast)

The Action:

Kiryn will open with her Yeti, Nairn (Humanoid) vs your Lofty Libram. Cast Amplify Magic on your first turn; on your second apply Curse of Doom. Curse of Doom will go off in a few rounds doing a large amount of damage, so as filler for 2 rounds cast Arcane Blast. When Amplify Magic becomes available, recast it. Cast Arcane Blast for 2 rounds. Your Curse of Doom goes off now; if you get a lucky crit it may completely kill Nairn; either way he will be dead or have very little health left. If he is still alive cast Arcane Blast one last time to finish him.

Your Curse of Doom may be off cooldown as Kiryn’s next pet, the Mechanical Stormoen, takes the stage. Cast it; if it is unavailable due to lucky crits on the first pet, just recast Arcane Blast. Your Lofty Libram will probably bite it this round. Bring out your Terrible Turnip and cast Sunlight immediately after Stormoen applies Call Lightning. You want Call Lightning to be GONE.  Stormoen will put up his Build Turret; cast Tidal Wave and be done with them for this round. Next round, cast Leech Seed and regain some  life and debuff the enemy. Cast Tidal Wave again the next round, and then the next when he rebuilds his turrets. Keep Tidal Wave-ing until Stormoen dies, and reapplies his Call Lightning. Recast Sunlight, and the next round once again obliterate his turrets with Tidal Wave. Stormoen should be history by  now.

Kiryn will bring out Summer (Beast); he will cast his 2 non-damaging buffs, Dodge and Prowl  consecutively. Pass the round; Dodge only lasts 1 Round and you cannot damage Summer on the next round as he casts Prowl thereafter, so pass once again. Since Summer casts Prowl, his speed drops by 30% and allows you to cast first the following round. Use this turn to cast Leech Seed. Your Terrible Turnip should die this round; Bring out your Darkmoon Tonk or chosen Mechanical pet, and finish off Summer.

The rhythm of this fight isn’t too hard to grasp once you’ve done it a few times. The only real variable, aside from the obvious chances to miss, is if Curse of Doom is available for the second time. Either way you should be fine even if it is not.

More Details:

Lofty Libram is a wild catch from Hillsbrad Foothills; it spawns around the Dalaran Crater area. If you are passing through and hunting, and do not see this pet  up to battle, start killing/battling any of the rats or other critters in the area and Lofty Libram will begin to spawn; good luck finding your rare! This pet is quite sought after so if after much camping you do not find a rare, it is definitely worth the use of a battle stone to upgrade it. Lofty Libram is only available in Breed#12, or H/B.

Terrible Turnip is farmed (very literally) via your personal Tiller’s farm in the Valley of the Four Winds. Harvesting any crop has a small chance to drop an Ominous Seed, which can be planted on the farm. In one day, your Ominous Seed harvest will yield a Terrible Turnip. If you are not interested in farming, these are now available VERY cheaply (sub 100g in some cases) on the auction house. This pet is essential for any pet collector or battle pet enthusiast due to the ability Weakening Blow, an ability completely unique to this pet (NO OTHER PETS have this or a comparable ability in the game as of this writing) which makes it the absolute ideal pet to capture lower level wild pets safety without accidentally murdering them due to lucky crits or lapses in attention  (we have all been there). Terrible Turnip is learned as rare and only available in Breed#8, or P/S.

Darkmoon Tonk was my personal choice for my third slot here, but you can choose any Mechanical pet for this slot with success. The Darkmoon Tonk is available each month at the Darkmoon Faire for 90 Darkmoon Prize Tickets. It is also a rare drop from the Darkmoon Game Prize package that you receive when completing any of the “game” daily quests during the Faire, and of course as always on your local auction house. Darkmoon Tonk is learned as rare and only available in Breed#7, or H/P.

Stone Cold Trixxy – 2 Pet Strategy

This is the strategy I use to defeat Stone Cold Trixxy;  she is located here in Winterspring, Kalimdor, @ roughly 65,64 coordinates, southeast of Everlook along the road. With this strategy it is possible to boost a much lower level pet.

*This is simply a strategy I use to beat this tamer, I do not claim it “as my own” or as “original content”*

Pet and Ability Lineup:

Your Squad:

Level 25  Anubisath Idol with Crush, Stoneskin, and Deflection. (Humanoid)

Level 25 Clockwork Gnome with Metal Fist, Repair, and Build Turret. (Mechanical)

Leveling Pet (see below for some tips/notes)

Enemy Team:

Level 19 TinygosArcane Storm, Surge of Power, and Wild Magic. (Dragonkin)

Level 19 FrostmawClaw, Prowl, and Rake. (Beast)

Level 19 BlizzyQuills, Predatory Strike, Nocturnal Strike. (Flying)

The Action:

Trixxy will open with Tinygos, her Dragonkin. Cast Crush twice. Tinygos will randomly use one of his three abilities; it’s different every time. You should be able to kill Tinygos while taking minimal damage within 2 or 3 rounds. Trixxy then brings out Frostmaw, her Beast. Switch to your Clockwork Gnome for bonus damage and cast Build Turret, then Metal Fist until Frostmaw is dead. When Frostmaw dies, Trixxy brings out Blizzy the Owl, her Flying pet. This is where your leveling pet can be swapped in; after Blizzy performs his attack swap it to the backline and bring out whichever of the two 25 pets you prefer; either can finish off Blizzy easily.

More In-Depth Details:

The Anubisath Idol is obtained from killing the Twin Emperors in the the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj (AQ 40), or your local auction house if you prefer. This Humanoid pet is learned as rare and only comes in Breed#6, or H/H. It’s generally not extremely expensive if you can’t or do not want to farm it off of the bosses (TUJ has him around 2300-3600g on my low-med pop server). If you intend to do a lot of pet battles and pet dailies for the achievements and bags he’s pretty much essential to have. Of course it can be done without him but I must say that my experience and time spent improved drastically once I leveled this pet. He can even SOLO some of the Pandaria tamers!

The Clockwork Gnome is obtained via Dwarven Archaeology through the Archaeology profession; it is a rare artifact and requires 100 fragments to complete, with the option to use 3 Dwarf Rune Stones. This Mechanical pet is learned as rare and is only available in Breed#11 or S/B. If you do not have Archaeology or do not wish to level it, this pet can be caged and sold on the auction house. On my low-med population server, TUJ states a market price of 3000g. Your mileage may vary. Again, I consider this one of my staples of the stable; it is well worth the time spent or gold, whichever you choose, if you want to do a lot of pet battling.

Your leveling pet for this tamer should be at least level 5 in most cases. I have had limited success boosting a level 1 pet by anticipating the Prowl ability of Frostmaw, but he casts it unreliably, and as such it is only a good strategy if you want to keep restarting the battle or just get plain lucky. In this battle I place my leveling pet in the fight when Trixxy brings out her last pet, Blizzy. His attack will be, by and large, survivable by a pet of at least level 5. Take your hit and then switch your leveling pet to the backline and bring the Clockwork Gnome back out to finish the job.  As a special note, if you are interested in leveling a Mechanical pet, due to their self-resurrection racial, it can be as low as level 1. Simply take your hit, die, resurrect and pet swap to the higher level pet.

Bloodknight Antari – 2 Pet Strategy

My first post and first video, aren’t you lucky!

Bloodknight Antari is located here in Shadowmoon Valley, Outland @ roughly 30.8, 41.9 coordinates, just south of Shadowmoon Village, the Horde faction town.

This is a strategy I employ for http://www.wowhead.com/npc=66557/bloodknight-antari; with this strategy it is possible to boost a much lower level pet.

*This is simply a strategy I use to beat this tamer, I do not claim it “as my own” or as “original content”*

Pet and Ability Lineup:

Your Squad:

Level 25  Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling with Breath, Bombing Run, and Decoy. (Mechanical)

Level 25 Rapana Whelk with Absorb, Shell Shield, and Dive. (Critter)

Leveling Pet (see below for some tips/notes)

Enemy Team:

Level 24 ArcanusAmplify Magic, Drain Power, and Feedback. (Magic)

Level 24 Jadefire –  Burn, Immolate, and Conflagrate. (Elemental)

Level 24 NetherbiteNether Blast, Phase Shift, and Soul Ward. (Dragonkin)

The Action:

Antari opens with his Magic pet, Arcanus the Mana Wyrm. Using your Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling, which will go first, cast Bombing Run. Arcanus will buff himself with Amplify Magic. Cast your Decoy, and begin Breath spam while Arcanus’ Feedback and Drain Power bounce off your Decoy.

After your Decoy fades your Bombing Run‘s payload will come in and Arcanus will either be dead or close to it. If Arcanus is still alive, use Breath until he drops.  If he is dead, switch out to your Rapana Whelk. Out comes Jadefire the Fire Elemental. He will Immolate and Conflagrate you, but you will take so little damage from his attacks as a critter that it barely matters.

Apply your Shell Shield and on the next round, Dive. Jadefire will continue to use Burn and Immolate but your Shell Shield completely negates the damage over time component from Immolate. After Dive hits, cast Absorb a few times while minding the round timer on Shell Shield. Reapply it if your Dive missed or Jadefire is still high on health. If not you can safely Absorb him down without dying.

When Jadefire dies. Antari brings out Netherbite, a Dragonkin. This is where you want to switch your leveling pet in. Netherbite will either cast Nether Blast doing some damage to your leveling pet, or buff himself with Soul Ward or Phase Shift. Either way, your leveling pet is done after this and can to safety on the backline while you bring out your Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling again. I generally do not cast Bombing Run here because more often than not the second part of the attack misses due to Soul Ward or Phase Shift being up that round. It’s up to you though, either is fine. Decoy afterward and use Breath until Netherbite drops.

More Details:

The Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling is a mechanical pet created by engineers of skill level 575; you can purchase it in the Auction House or craft one/have it crafted. The materials are not too expensive.  The pet is learned as uncommon quality and only comes in Breed#5, or S/S. In this video, you will see I have opted to use a battle stone and upgrade him to rare quality; this is not required, the pet can handle this fight quite well as uncommon. If you do have access to a battle stone I would definitely recommend that you consider this pet for an upgrade. It is quite unique in that it is a mechanical family pet with a Dragonkin attack; as you see in this video he does bonus damage to Magic type pets while at the same time taking decreased damage from them. This makes him an ideal choice against many magical opponents and I employ this pet in several situations including the Celestial Tournament’s version of Wise Mari.

The Rapana Whelk is a critter pet caught wild in Dread Wastes; the rare I captured was of Breed#3 or B/B. Rapana Whelk is also available in Breed#5, or S/S, and Breed#12 or H/B. Any breed is acceptable for this fight.  There are several similar pets you can use in this slot if you have not captured a Rapana Whelk yet. Ideally you want one of the snails as they are critters and they take less damage from Jadefire’s burning elemental bullying. Acceptable alternatives are the wild caught Rusty Snail, Shimmershell Snail and the Silkbead Snail. Also identical in ability is Scooter the Snail, who is easily obtainable via quest during Children’s Week each May.

Your leveling pet for this fight should be about level 6 in most cases, especially if you are new to pet battles or boosting and are unsure about how much damage is incoming. On this particular trainer I switch my leveling pet in when Antari pulls out his third pet, Netherbite. Netherbite only has one damaging ability, Nether Blast, and often he will opt to lead off with one of his 2 damage reduction abilities instead. Your pet will take no damage so therefore it is possible to boost a level 1 pet in this case, but it’s no guarantee he won’t use his damage attack and wipe the floor with your baby pet in one shot. Remember, when you switch your pet in for boosting if you live through an attack from the enemy you can safely switch out; you do not need to hit the other pet to gain the experience. The round merely needs to resolve with you alive.

Special thanks to Hazel of Hazelnutty games where I first saw this strategy. If you have a better, different or more efficient strategy I would love to hear it; I am always looking for new ideas or help.
